On September 29, 2016 San Quentin News held its first recognition ceremony in honor of Kevin Sawyer, winner of the Aronson Award for Community Journalism, and the other San Quentin News reporters. The ceremony was held inside San Quentin Prison.  It was their first opportunity to acknowledge those who work directly with the newspaper inside and outside of the prison, and the unsung individuals that have helped them reach the point they are at today.

The Hunter College Department of Film and Media Studies and the Aronson Awards are thrilled to have contributed to this celebration.

IMA student Tom Gubernat will be screening Girls and Boys at the Denver Int’l Film Festival in their “First Look: Face the Music” program on Nov 11th and 12th and then on Nov. 13th at DOC NYC in the “I love NY” program.

Come to the 2016 Aronson Awards Film Screening. The screening will feature Melissa Saucedo Gonzales’s Before David and Samantha Farinella’s Hunting in Wartime. The screening will be on Wednesday, November 9th at 6:30pm at Hunter College in the Lang Hall/HN424. Enter through the Hunter College 69th street entrance which is between Park and Lexington Ave. The event is free and open to the public.
