On Wednesday, October 8th, media literacy influencer Kelsey Russell will join Professor David Alm in the Lang Auditorium to discuss the news industry and how we engage with information on a daily basis.
A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Ms. Russell graduated from Boston University in 2022 and moved to New York City that year to pursue a master’s degree in sociology and education at Teachers College of Columbia University. In the past three years, she has amassed over 100,000 followers on TikTok and Instagram by reading news stories and interpreting them in real time. She also hosts a podcast about the news media, Kronikled, and a news show for kids called First Stop News.
Now 25, Russell describes herself as a full-time influencer and podcaster, but has ambitions far beyond her current projects. At Wednesday’s event, she will discuss her journey thus far, her views on journalism and what’s next in her efforts to create a more informed, critically minded society.
Members of the Hunter community may register for the event here, or come by Lang at 12:30 on October 8th. If the event is full, those who registered in advance will get priority.
