IMA alumna Sarah Friedland and IMA student Jay Weichun’s film, Words From Jafar will be part of the NOW! Cinema Screening at Interference Archive on Dec. 19th, at 7:30pm.
“Now! Cinema explores the ways in which filmmakers use their work to respond to the political struggles of our present moment. All films within the program were created in the aftermath of the death by police of 18-year old Michael Brown. Now! Cinema responds to crisis. Now! Cinema offers the radical reply.”
IMA students Jay Weichun and Natalie Conn’s film A Place of Spirit will be part of the Black Maria Festival Tour. The students will be attending the screening on March 1st, 2:00PM at the Madison Arts and Cultural Alliance Public Library where the tour will be currently taking place. IMA students Natalie Conn and Jay Weichun, co-directors of the film “A Place of Spirit” were selected to receive student grants by the National Board of Review as part of their annual Student Grant Competition. In addition to their grants, Nathalie and Jay will also receive an honorary 1 year membership into the NBR. “A Place of Spirit”, a documentary created in Professor Shanti Thakur’s “Documentary Expressions” class, studies the impact an eviction notice has in the life of a woman who spent 44 years living in the same house.
