The Black Panther Commemoration Committee NY and Maysles Cinema invite you to the screening of EVERY MOTHER’S SON with special guest speakers Iris Baez, a leader in the struggle to end police violence and filmmaker Tami Gold.
In 2004 Tami Gold and Kelly Anderson released the documentary EVERY MOTHER’S SON. 15 years later grassroot struggles against police violence and over policing have grown exponentially. Come to this event where you can see this film and meet one of the women who spearheaded this movement — Iris Baez.
EVERY MOTHER’S SON is about three ordinary mothers forced to become extraordinary activists after their sons were killed by the police – is powerful, heartbreaking, and ultimately transforming. The story of their sons’ lives and deaths, told through the hearts and minds of their mothers, makes real not only the tragedy of police brutality, but the more tragic loss of the lives of EVERY MOTHER’S SON. This film transforms victims into real people and makes it impossible to remain indifferent or inactive about the issue of police misconduct and excessive use of force.
