Professor Gustavo Mercado’s feature film, Saturnalia, wins multiple awards during film festival run

Professor Mercado’s feature film, Saturnalia, which was produced with an all student crew from the Department of Film & Media Studies, has won multiple awards during its film festival run this summer:

Columbia Gorge International Film Festival – Special Jury Feature Award
Kingston NY Film Festival – Best Feature Award
Chain NYC Film Festival – Best Cinematography Award
Chain NYC Film Festival – Best Actress Award
Woods Hole Film Festival – Best actress Award
Cincinnati Film Festival – Best Narrative Feature

Saturnalia has also just been announced as an official selection at the prestigious Cincinnati Film Festival, and will screen there later this month.

IMA Students Natalie Conn & Jay Weichun win prestigious National Board of Review Students Grants

IMA students Natalie Conn and Jay Weichun, co-directors of the film “A Place of Spirit” were selected to receive student grants by the National Board of Review as part of their annual Student Grant Competition. In addition to their grants, Nathalie and Jay will also receive an honorary 1 year membership into the NBR. “A Place of Spirit”, a documentary created in Professor Shanti Thakur’s “Documentary Expressions” class, studies the impact an eviction notice has in the life of a woman who spent 44 years living in the same house.
