FM students win prizes for their business solutions

students Tommy and Junior

Congrats to FM students Tommy Yuen and Junior Esteban in Prof. Jeanie Ahn’s “Classroom to Career” class! They attended the Blackstone Innovation Sprint and were on winning teams (2nd and 3rd place). They won cash prizes for their business solutions and presentations.

IPG Mediabrands asked 6 teams to come up with a solution for their business partner Ulta Beauty. It was to market toward 13-21 age girls to buy Ulta Beauty over other competitors. The team used their extensive knowledge of pop-culture trends to come up with an innovative idea that would capture this audience.

The Dept. of Film and Media Studies mourns the passing of Prof. Joel Zuker

The Department of Film and Media Studies mourns the passing of Prof. Joel Zuker.

Joel came to Hunter College in 1972. He was in the Department of Theater and Film before that department merged with the Department of Communications in 1997 to form the Department of Film and Media Studies. He was the head of the Film Program for at least the past 30 years. Joel’s bio on our website ends with the words:

“I have lectured or presented papers at colleges in Utah, Florida, Montana, New Hampshire, Vermont, Ohio, even aboard a ship crossing the Atlantic Ocean. Yet, the one place that is the most challenging, the most exciting, and the most rewarding to me both academically and spiritually is right here at Hunter.”

Joel loved film, and he mentored, inspired and impacted tens of thousands of students over more than 5 decades at Hunter.

Our thoughts are with Joel’s wife Susan, daughters Katy Zuker Cooperman and Alison Gould.

Please join us on Tues., May 6th 1-3PM at Lang Hall (HN 424) to remember and celebrate Prof. Joel Zuker.
