IMA alum Andrew Demirjian will be screening OUT OF SIGHT / ON THE FLOOR: Unseen Visions in Documentary Film on Wednesday, March 27 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM. Admission is free but an RSVP is required.
In conjunction with our current exhibition, superreal: alternative realities in photography and video, El Museo presents a night of conversation and film clips that explore the real in documentaries. Filmmakers Chistina Ibarra, Frances Negrón-Muntaner, and Ela Troyano reveal the stories behind favorite unseen excerpts from their documentary films. The outtake is center stage as these award-winning filmmakers discuss and screen treasured clips reluctantly cut from recent projects. The evening will be a dialogue about the creative, technical, legal, and structural elements that shape the representation of reality.
This program is curated and moderated by Andrew Demirjian, an artist and educator who focuses on the intersection of non-fiction and new media. His work combines computer programming with audio/video production to create experimental documentaries that explore relationships between psychology and time. He received his MFA in Integrated Media Arts from Hunter College and teaches documentary film, screen studies and interactive media at Monmouth University.
