The first IMA/MFA Thesis Work-in-Progress Workshop sponsored by the IMA Development Fund, will take place on Monday, April 30th @ 7:30PM in Hunter North 502/Screening Room. Graduate students presenting include: Ghen Zando-Dennis, Stephanie Rabins, and Sasha Wortzel. All IMA students not presenting are encouraged to attend as observers.
About the Workshop:
IMA/MFA graduate students from the program volunteer to participate, and selection of the participants is made on a first come first serve basis. Each grad student will have up to 30 minutes to present with a comparable amount of time for feedback/critique. The panel members overseeing the workshop will be Veronique Bernard, Rachel Stevens, and Erin Greenwell, Department of Film & Media faculty at Hunter College.
About the Panel:
Véronique Bernard, president of Iliad Entertainment, a film and television company specializing in international co-productions for non-fiction projects, is a senior television executive with more than 20 years’ experience in nonfiction production and broadcast journalism in the United Kingdom, Australia and the United States. She has commissioned, developed, produced and executive produced hundreds of hours of programming including news and current affairs, talk shows, magazine shows, documentaries, reality series, lifestyle series, docu-dramas, live programs and remote broadcasts for companies including National Geographic Television, New York Times Television, ABC News Productions, Condé Nast Media Group, WNET, WNYC, PBS, Discovery Communications, Sundance Channel and SBS Television in Australia where she was Head of Production. She has secured program funding from federal bodies such as the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the Australia Council and was a key creative in high profile programs for Nova, The Learning Channel, National Geographic Channels and Discovery Times.
Bernard is an award-winning producer and a drama director, as well as a teacher of acting and television production. She has taught at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and School of Continuing & Professional Studies amongst others. She is an international content development executive with deep knowledge of the global broadcasting and cable market and a solid network of professional relationships in the UK, USA, Australia and her native France. She is on the board of Global Action Project, a youth media and social justice organization.
Rachel Stevens is an artist based in New York City. Her work in sculpture, photography, web-based archives, writing and other media has been shown at the Socrates Sculpture Park and in galleries, museums and conferences in the US and in Europe. She has taught media art and theory at Brown University, in the Hunter College Integrated Media Art MFA program, at the Rhode Island School of Design and in the Brooklyn College Performance and Interactive Media program. Her writing on art and visual culture has appeared in Afterimage, Millennium Film Journal, Flash Art and other publications. She has worked as a curator and producer for Creative Time and is currently working on Oyster City, an augmented reality game and walking tour about the history of oysters in New York City.
Erin Greenwell is the founder of Smithy Productions. She recently directed her feature film “My Best Day” which recently premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2012. Other accomplishments include writing, producing and directing “Big Dreams in Little Hope” a feature which was released through Wolfe Video. Erin was noted as Outfest’s 1 in 5 Top Director’s to watch. She was a finalist for the Sundance Screenwriter’s Lab for her feature length script, “Somewhere Along the Way” a script about the butch/femme lesbian bar scene in the 1950s. Her very first featurette, “21” was nominated for a Best First Feature Award by Frameline and ran at Bam Rose Cinemas as part of Best of the New Fest’s series.
Erin Greenwell holds a BFA in Dramatic Writing for NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and an MFA in Writing and Directing Fiction from The City College of NY. She has been a teacher of production, directing, editing and story structure in docs and narratives for 10+ years throughout NYC. Documentary editing includes The PBS Magazine format show “In the Life”, musical biopics “Passion” and “Devil May Care” and assistant editing on human rights documentaries “Cruel and Unusual” and “Dangerous Living.” Erin has also served as a reality tv editor for TLC, Animal Planet and Bio.
