IMA student Makia Harper’s screening

“Our Space, Our Food, Our Bed Stuy” on Saturday, July 13, 2013. The film was produced (this past semester in Public Health Documentary) by IMA student Makia Harper, Phung Tran-Khamphounvong, Uki Lau, and Samantha Riddell, two public health students and undergraduate in the media studies program.

Our Space, Our Food, Our Bed-Stuy is a 13-minute documentary short examining the lack of healthy foods available to members of Brooklyn’s historically African American neighborhood, Bedford Stuyvesant. Through the lens of local residents, shop owners, gardeners and activists, Our Space explores the multifaceted nature of Bed-Stuy’s issues with food access while highlighting the grassroots initiatives that address the problem every step of the way.
