Angela Ferraiolo, IMA 2009, has been named an Electronic Writing
Fellow at Brown University, where she will continue working with
interactive text and video. A two year appointment, the Electronic
Writing Fellowship works across the Literary Arts program at Brown and
the Digital Media program at the Rhode Island School of Design. In the
early sixties, Ted Nelson developed the hyperlink here while working
on Literary Machines. In 1989, the experimental writer Robert Coover
taught the first-ever hypertext literature course. Former Electronic
Writing Fellows include Noah Wardrip-Fruin, Brian Kim-Stefans, Ian
Hatcher, and John Cayley, who now directs the program.

Elvis Maynard’s documentary will open Reel 13
Elvis Maynard’s documentary “Jim, An East Village Story” will open Reel 13 this Saturday at 11p.m. on channel thirteen (PBS). On Wednesday, Gothamist reviewed Elvis’s film: “If you’ve ever stepped foot in the East Village, you’ve probably seen Jim Power’s work. Bedazzled around lamp posts and trash cans, his art has been brightening up the neighborhood since Avenue A was adventurous, B was brave, C was crazy and D was deadly. Now Elvis Maynard, a film student at Hunter College, has made a documentary both honoring Jim’s work and following the ever-controversial change that has come to the neighborhood in the past years.”
Elvis’ film was picked for Reel 13 during an exclusive CUFF (City University Film Festival) week, and his film was originally made known to the producers of Reel 13 by the CUFF student board.
Two WORD Writers Win Awards
Hannah Miet, won a 2009 Murray Kempton Award for Undergraduate Journalism for her piece, “I’m Drinking Red Bull ’Cause I Want Your Body: Diatribe of a Disgruntled New Yorker,” which was published in the Envoy.
Jessica Lawson, CUNY BA, writing for the WORD, won a 2009 Murray Kempton Award for her piece published in the WORD, “Bushwick: Ethnographic Profile of a North Brooklyn Neighborhood.”
