Professor Mercado was invited to give a lecture in Tokyo, Japan, this past January to coincide with the newly published Japanese version of the 2nd edition of his book “The Filmmaker’s Eye: Learning (and Breaking) the Rules of Cinematic Composition”. The 3 hour lecture focused on “image systems”, a new area of film scholarship developed by professor Mercado that analyzes the visual structure of movies, and had over 100 participants.
