Prof. Shanti Thakur at A.I.R. Gallery for Hybrid Documentary (blurring the real and the imaginary)

IMA faculty Shanti Thakur and photographer Maxine Henryson will discuss hybrid documentary, after showing excerpts of their work.

AIR Gallery is the oldest women-run gallery in the country. It is also one of the “10 Galleries to Visit in Brooklyn“, according the to NY Times.

The talk will be held in conjunction with Maxine Henryson’s solo exhibition Contrapuntal.

IMA alumni Sarah Friedland and Ryan Joseph’s documentary film “The Rink” is streaming on NJTV (NJ PBS) during May and will be broadcast a few more times. This documentary depicts a space cherished by skaters and a city struggling to move beyond its past and forge a new narrative amidst contemporary social issues. The film touches on “urban renewal”, resistance and the 1967 uprising, contemporary downtown gentrification, segregation and inequalities. Click here for more info.
