This program looks at rarely explored cultural traditions in Latin America. Features With a Stroke of the Chaveta (2007) Directed by Pam Sporn. USA/Cuba. This documentary reveals the tradition of lectores, or readers, which was an integral part of the world of Cuban cigar makers from the 1800s to the early 1900s. In Spanish with English subtitles. Shown with Solidarity in Saya: An Afro-Bolivian Music Movement (2009) Directed by Maya Jensen. Bolivia. Through music and very revealing interviews with Afro-Bolivian economist Juan Angola Maconde and others, this documentary explores the little known Afro-Bolivian population.
