The Company

Resolve Philly is an unconventional journalism organization that challenges our industry to be more equitable, collaborative, and based in community voices and solutions. The organization was founded in 2018, by Jean Friedman-Rudovsky and Cassie Haynes, having grown out of a 2017 collaborative reporting project around reentry from prison, a critical issue facing Philadelphia. Thirteen local newsrooms came together to do solutions  reporting on this central topic, producing more than 200 stories and spurring policy change. Resolve now has four programmatic initiatives—which all work in tandem with one another.  We are rooted in Philadelphia, but the scope of our work is national and our sphere of influence is global.

The Role

This role is an exciting opportunity to support Resolve’s mission and work by being a key player in our Equally Informed Philly (EIP) initiative. Our team works to bridge the information divide, reducing barriers for vulnerable residents who need trustworthy information to survive and thrive in Philly. We also invest deeply in underestimated voices and community storytellers. Equally Informed provides a community-driven print newsletter and the Equal Info Line, a free bi-lingual (English and Spanish) question and answer texting service that also provides vetted local news and resources to subscribers. This role would have a hand in all these elements of EIP, but is focused primarily on being one of two people who staff the Equal Info line.

The Candidate

The successful candidate is one who can support the Equally Informed Philly (EIP) team in bridging digital and information divides experienced by excluded/marginalized Philadelphia communities with a focus on Spanish speaking/Latino communities in the city.  You’re a great fit for this position if you know how to plug into Latino communities in Philadelphia and are passionate about connecting with people in creative ways. You have a strong background in journalism, media and/ or organizing. You’re someone who loves to pull threads from community conversations and turn them into story ideas or resources. You know the value of listening to understand instead of listening to respond.
