Hi, my name is Angel Antonio and I am the Associate Director of Arts & Culture at the Center for Puerto Rican Studies at Hunter College.
I’m happy to share that the Diasporican Cultural Summit will be celebrating its second edition this year, on October 21 and 22 at John Jay College.
This year, the Summit will take place alongside FILNY (the International Book Fair of New York), organized by the Mexican Studies Institute.
Our focus this year is Art Research. We aim to support new scholarship on art while exploring both traditional forms of knowledge sharing, such as writing, and newer approaches, including public scholarship, film, and social media.
As part of this effort, we’ve designed two private workshops with your students in mind. Space is limited, and we wanted to give your students priority access. Please feel free to share this opportunity with them as you see fit.
Private registration will close on October 1. Students can use the code DCS2026 to register.

Workshop: Artists Interviews and Oral Histories
Wednesday, October 21 | 12:00-1:30 PM | John Jay College
This workshop explores artists’ interviews and oral histories as critical methodologies for documenting, preserving, and expanding Puerto Rican cultural memory and diasporic research. Through conversation and practical examples, participants will engage strategies for conducting interviews that foreground collaboration, lived experience, and community-centered knowledge production. The session will also examine how oral histories can function as archives, research tools, and decolonial forms of cultural preservation.
Roundtable: Demystifying the Pitch
Wednesday, October 21 | 2:30-4:00 PM | John Jay College
Elevator pitches. Investor pitches. Sales pitches. If you are an emerging writer, researcher, or cultural critic interested in publishing essays, articles, reviews, and more, this round table is for you. Join us for a discussion with editors and contributors from academic and non-academic platforms on practical strategies for developing a strong pitch, identifying the right publication venue, understanding editorial processes, and navigating publication opportunities across journals, magazines, and digital media.
