The Media Services unit of the Administration for Children’s Services seeks a college intern to help with its productions. CS is the New York City agency responsible for protecting children from abuse and neglect, foster care and adoption, Head Start and city-run child care, and the city’s juvenile justice system.
Our video productions support these services by training caseworkers, promoting key initiatives, and educating our families and partners on vital child welfare issues. Our videos are distributed via Youtube, Twitter and other social media platforms, internally in trainings, and given to community members via local organizations.
At least 16 hours a week preferred.
Hours negotiable.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Video editing on Final Cut X.
- Assisting with video shoots.
- Research content, music, photographs, etc. related to production.
- Assisting in research and paperwork for purchasing equipment and supplies.
- Logging and loading video footage.
- Organizing the collections of DVDs and master tapes.
- DVD duplication and maintaining hard drive storage.
- Helping develop a web-based catalogue of Media Services videos.
PREFFERED SKILLS:
The intern should have proven skills in the basics of video production and editing, specifically, with Final Cut Pro X. Knowledge of Photoshop is a plus. Written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a team are important. The intern should be able to interact courteously with people from diverse backgrounds. Of prime importance are organizational skills, and a willingness to take on any necessary task whether creative or mundane.
In return, interns gain experience in conceptualizing, researching, producing and disseminating documentary-style videos. Media producer Sam Sills has produced documentaries for public and cable television and as an independent producer. Interns may also work alongside experienced camera people and editors.
