Internship Opportunities at Negro Ensemble Company, Inc.
Summer 2016
The Negro Ensemble Company, Inc., one of New York City’s longest lived and most acclaimed African American theater companies, seeks student interns to learn the craft of theatre production in various capacities. We currently have opportunities for business students to serve as administrative interns and theater students to serve as production interns. These are unpaid internships.
Administrative Interns (4)
Administrative Interns at NEC will work on audience development for the upcoming Cutting Edge Playhouse Emerging Playwrights Competition August 4-28 2016 at Summer Shares at La MaMa. They must be dependable and be able to maintain a consistent schedule of attendance, and they must be available from June 13th until August 29th. Hours are generally from 10am to 6pm. Minimum 20 hours per week.
Production Interns (6)
Production Interns will be broken into two categories: Assistant Stage Managers (4) and Production Assistants (2). They must have some experience in theater production, whether in stage management, lighting, or sound board operation. They must be dependable and be able to maintain a consistent schedule of attendance, and they must be available from June 13th until August 29th. Hours are generally (with flexibility) from approximately noon to 10pm. Minimum 20 hours per week.
ALL INTERNS WILL BE ALLOWED TO ENROLL IN NEC’S THEATER WORKSHOPS FREE OF CHARGE (A $300 value).

Playwrighting Workshop with Michael Bradford (University of Connecticut)
Basic Acting Workshop with Anderson Johnson
Master Class (acting) with NEC Artistic Director Charles Weldon
Directing Workshop with Bette Howard
Stage Management Workshop with Hurvey Morris
Dance and Movement Workshop with Phillip Obediah Wright
Workshops generally begin Monday, June 6, 2016. Note that interns may begin workshops a week or two after the official course beginning, if needed.
