Contest Information-Several Hunter students have won this in the past.
The Deadline Club, New York City’s chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, celebrates and invests in the future of journalism with annual scholarships for standout student reporters. The Club awards merit-based scholarships of $2,500 each to outstanding student journalists.
The competition is open to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in journalism or journalism-focused communications programs within 50 miles of Columbus Circle. A panel of journalists, educators, and media professionals selects recipients based on academic achievement and journalistic work that reflects a strong potential to uphold the highest standards of the craft. All decisions are final.
Scholarship recipients will be notified by email no later than May 5. They’ll be invited to attend the Deadline Club’s annual awards dinner as guests of the Club. Winners will be recognized at the celebration on Thursday, May 15, 2025, in front of an audience of New York City journalists. Applicants who are not selected will not be notified, and the Deadline Club cannot respond to inquiries about application status.
