This course examines the relationship between the media and sports and the role of sports in society. The course will consider the business operations of the TV sports industry and analyze the production of a TV sports program.  The above subjects will                                                             provide a foundation from which to examine various social issues about sports- sports and race in American society; women and sports; sports and male                                                       culture; and sports and national identity. Major and minor American spectator sports will be considered in addition to sports popular in other countries and                                                         the Olympic Games.
