Job Title: Digital Creation Lab Assistant

POSITION OVERVIEW
John Jay College’s Digital Creation Lab (DCL) is seeking a motivated and creative Lab Assistant to support
the operation, maintenance, and development of our programming. The ideal candidate will assist
students, faculty, and staff with multimedia projects, provide technical support for AV equipment and
software, and help maintain a collaborative and innovative media production environment.
GENERAL DUTIES
Reporting to the John Jay College DCL Program Manager and the ePortfolio Program Assistant, the Lab
Assistant supports a variety of DCL operation and ePortfolio Program activities along with other Learning
Technologies initiatives. The Lab Assistant is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day activities as
outlined below:

  • Provide technical assistance to students, faculty, and staff in the use of audiovisual and media
    production equipment and software.
  • Support faculty and student projects involving video and audio recording, production, digital
    media editing, and digital portfolios.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve basic technical issues related to A/V hardware and software.
  • Facilitate audiovisual, media & ePortfolio workshops.
  • Contribute to social media initiatives and event planning.
  • Monitor support e-mails and EAB Navigate requests.
  • Assist with the setup, calibration, and maintenance of A/V equipment, including cameras,
    microphones, lighting systems, and editing workstations.
  • Monitor lab activities to ensure compliance with institutional policies and proper use of
    resources.
  • Maintain inventory and equipment checkout records; report damaged or missing equipment.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must have knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, MS Office, Googe Drive, Digication and/or other
    online website creation programs.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in camera operation, lighting setup, and audio recording techniques.
  • Strong understanding of media file formats, data management, and digital workflows.
  • Ability to think creatively about the strengths and needs of college students.
  • Must demonstrate sufficient skills to perform the duties of the assigned tasks.
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Knowledge of AI.
  • Experience in Canon and Apple product ecosystem.
  • Experience with social media marketing.
  • Work experience in a media lab, film studio, or audiovisual support role.

COMPENSATION:
This is a part-time position of up to 8-15 hours per week, scheduling of the days can be worked out.
Hourly rate is $20 per hour. Appointment is on a per semester basis and subject to budgetary and
renewal approval.
