I am reaching out to CUNY colleagues and colleges to reintroduce the Publishing Certificate Program (PCP) of The City College of New York and invite CUNY students across all majors to enroll in the certificate program’s courses on topics in book publishing on offer this coming Spring 2025. I’d be happy to connect with you in fostering student career pathways in the business of making and selling books!

The PCP celebrated its 25th anniversary this past year and has been dedicated to increasing diversity in the publishing industry workforce since its inception. We count among our partners all the major NYC publishers as well as many presses and literary organizations. We count among our alumni many leaders in the industry, including founders, publishers, authors, editors, and department heads. In 2024, we were able to match our students to 21 new internship opportunities in book publishing! We’d like to do the same for your students with interests in books, literacy, and the book publishing business! Available career tracks in publishing include marketing, publicity, editorial, academic publishing, fiction, non-fiction, children’s books, YA, finance, sales, art, design, DEIB, intellectual property, contracts, audio books, and more! I hope you’ll pass along this email and the attached flyer to your coworkers and student advisees to let them know about this singular opportunity at CUNY.

This spring 2025 the PCP will offer the following courses: Introduction to Publishing; Global Publishing; Books for Young Readers; and The Editorial Process. See the course details on the flyer attached!

Students from across the CUNY campuses can enroll in PCP courses via ePermit in CUNYFirst. There are no CCNY prerequisites or permissions required for registration. Students may enroll in any individual courses of interest without pursuance of the full certificate, or begin their studies to complete the 5 required electives to earn the official Publishing Certificate. The Publishing Certificate is an additional credential CUNY students may graduate with in addition to their degrees! The PCP is also open to continuing education students, so CUNY alums can return and earn the certificate by enrolling in the stand-alone program.

I am available should you or your students have any questions about the PCP. Email me at ccastro2@ccny.cuny.edu

Thank you in advance for helping to spread the word!

All the best,

Christina Marie Castro, M.F.A
