Hi David,
Please pardon the cold email – I found your name on Hunter’s website, and as the “Internship Advisor,” I think you are the person I should talk to!
I’m a film editor here in New York, and I’m helping to set up a new internship program sponsored by ACE (American Cinema Editors). I’m wondering if you might be able to help me get the word out to students in Hunter’s Film Program.
The ACE Internship has been operating in Los Angeles for 30 years, and this year we’re launching it in New York for the first time. It is designed to help those who are new to the film industry and looking to kickstart their careers in editing.
The internship has two main parts:
1) A week-long lecture series, conducted over Zoom in and person, designed to introduce participants to the workflow, etiquette, and job options available in post production. These lectures are offered to all applicants and will take place in September 2024.
2) Two interns are then chosen for a four-week, paid internship. They will spend three weeks shadowing editors and assistant editors in three different cutting rooms: a narrative feature, a scripted series, and a non-scripted series or documentary feature. A fourth week is devoted to observation in various post production facilities dedicated to sound, color, music, VFX, etc. This will take place in October 2024.
The goal of the program is to offer orientation, education, mentorship, connection and guidance. Former ACE interns have edited projects as varied as Moonlight, The Last of Us, Beef, and The Batman, and have worked in cutting rooms for Avatar, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Ted Lasso, Pen15, and countless more.
Applications open on May 1st, and more information can be found here. Please feel free to forward or post this information yourself, or let me know how I can best make it accessible to your student body. Meanwhile, I’d be happy to answer any questions for you or potential candidates (but please don’t post my email publicly).
We’re thrilled to be able to offer this program in New York City this year and hope to attract applicants who love editing, know they want to explore it professionally, and are invested in building the connections and knowledge base to launch their careers. The only requirement for potential interns is that they be excited about editing and at the beginning of their editing careers (and anyone who is still in school will need to have graduated by the time the internship starts in October 2024).
Thank you so much for any help you may be able to provide in letting people know about this opportunity!
Sincerely,
Julia
