The West Orange African Heritage Organization – WOAHO

We are seeking one – two creative and hard-working production interns to assist with WOAHO: A History, a new legacy initiative, to capture the lives, struggles and successes of the organization and its leaders. WOAHO came into existence in 1984 as the Concerned Black Citizens of West Orange to address issues of school integration as the town’s two high schools were merged into one. In the ensuing 37 years WOAHO has emerged as a major community partner in West Orange’s educational, civic, cultural and political landscape, offering scholarships to graduating high school seniors, conducting political forums to ensure that matters of importance to the African American community are addressed and hosting cultural events and celebrations. Our film project will capture and help share the stories, beliefs, values and life lessons of WOAHO members and leaders, many of whom are now active senior citizens. The film will also profile the new directions WOAHO is taking as the torch is passed to Generation X and Millennials. You (Interns) can help us achieve our goal to ensure these stories are not forgotten. The intern(s) will work directly with the WOAHO Historian, Professor Brent Scott. Ideal candidates are pursuing film or journalism degree, but other creative disciplines are welcome. Our ideal candidate is patient, professional and enjoys learning about and chronicling from sources of living history.

Responsibilities include:

-Sound and video editing for digital storytelling projects

-Providing technical guidance and art direction to those conducting the interviews

-Accompanying interviewers on occasion to assist with filming of interview and b-roll footage

Requirements:

-Ability to deliver videos that clearly tell the desired story with cuts, sound and other elements that convey a

 quality production

-Knowledge of digital videography and equipment

-Initiative, common sense and problem-solving skills

-Some media production experience a must

-Ability to work effectively as part of a team or alone

-Experience with Adobe Premier and other appropriate production software and programs
