Videography Internship at Weill Cornell Medicine
Departments of Surgery, Anesthesiology and Interventional Radiology

The Departments of Surgery, Anesthesiology and Interventional Radiology at Weill Cornell Medicine are looking for a video intern for the Fall semester 2016. We are looking for a dedicated and passionate applicant who will primarily focus on planning, filming and editing various educational and promotional videos.

Operating from a state-of-the-art simulation center, the candidate will be working in an educational facility as well as the operating rooms of the hospital alongside staff, faculty and patients. The applicant will be under the direct supervision of a senior videographer. However, the applicant will not be micro-managed and will be required to manage their own projects.

The main goal of this internship will be to expand and improve the candidate’s abilities in all aspects of video production. This internship is unpaid, but students will receive credit towards their educational careers.

Interns will learn and/or improve upon:

– Pre-production – Planning, scripting and organizing shoots.

– Production – The process of properly recording audio and video. Specifically using:

§ DSLR Cameras

§ Go Pro Cameras

§ Portable/Custom recorders

§ LED Lights

§ Sound Recorders

§ Various types of microphones

– Post-Production – Non-linear editing of video and audio. The basics of editing graphics/text and sound editing. Specifically using:

§ Adobe Premiere

§ Adobe After Effects

§ Adobe Photoshop

§ Adobe Audition
Requirements:

1. Applicant must have basic knowledge of video making. They must have some experience in pre-production, production or post-production.
2. Applicant must be a full-time student during Spring 2016 semester.
3. Applicant must be okay with seeing, filming and editing surgical and anesthesia procedures performed on actual patients. Please see the below video link which has examples of things that an intern would see. Please use this video as a test. This is extremely important! If you cannot watch these videos comfortably (or at least without feeling sick) please do not apply to this position, it is not for you.

***WARNING, some people might find this video very graphic. This video includes clips of actual procedures on actual patients. Please view at your own risk.

4. Applicant will be required to undergo a medical exam in order to get clearance to work in hospital space. This is required of everyone working around patients. This will include blood work, quick medical and a urine drug test. NOTE: This will be free of charge.
5. Applicant must be required to commit between 12-16 hours/week to the internship. This is a requirement of Hunter College and usually means about two full days of work. This will be flexible and can be worked with the applicant’s schedule. The most common days we would need an intern to come help are: Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays (this does not mean that an intern is required to work all three days but rather that they would pick two of the three). That being said, this is not an absolute requirement. Applicants are still encouraged to apply even if they cannot commit on any of those days. The schedule can be created around the student’s schedule. Hunter and Weill Cornell Medical College are very close and travel between campuses is very quick.

6. Applicants must be careful, aware and professional when working with staff, students, faculty and more importantly with patient images and data.
Applicants please send a brief cover letter describing your past experiences with video making and reasons for interest in the internship. Please include a resume as well. You can send applications to: isb2006@med.cornell.edu or through the Hunter Career Services Website.
