American Dream Films is an independent partnership between seasoned film producer, Diana Devlin, and budding filmmaker, Grace Zinnel. The two teamed up in early 2015 to embark on a project that they both feel passionately about.
Currently entitled, American Nightmare / American Dream is the story of 3 women who have experienced poverty in the United States and are looking for a way out through higher education. Their stories connect through the Welfare Rights Initiative (WRI), a grassroots student activist and community leadership organization based out of CUNY Hunter College that trains and supports students with firsthand experience of poverty to effectively promote access to education for all. Over the last twenty years, WRI has created systemic changes that opened up the door to a four-year degree for students on welfare, and lead to economic stability, empowerment and dignity for families stuck in the cycle of poverty.
Over the two-semester course at Hunter, ADF will document the journey of these three women as they strive for the American Dream.
