{"id":4327,"date":"2020-04-06T08:32:14","date_gmt":"2020-04-06T12:32:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fm.hunter.cuny.edu\/journalism\/?p=4327"},"modified":"2020-04-07T14:27:27","modified_gmt":"2020-04-07T18:27:27","slug":"interning-under-a-pandemic-hunter-students-make-adjustments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fm.hunter.cuny.edu\/journalism\/index.php\/2020\/04\/06\/interning-under-a-pandemic-hunter-students-make-adjustments\/","title":{"rendered":"Interning Under A Pandemic, Hunter Students Make Adjustments"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In an informal survey of Hunter students interning in newsrooms this semester, three of the four who replied said they were able to transition their internship to a home setting after the coronavirus outbreak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the case of senior Sudeepa Singh, she has been working at CBS News&#8217; 60&nbsp;Minutes from home for about two weeks now, after COVID-19 turned up at CBS News offices and the operation was forced to temporarily close down. It&#8217;s easier to communicate in-person than over the phone. Melissa Lent at WNBC\u2019s Better Get Baquero team, a consumer unit that reports on stories about companies or products that consumers may have issues with, had her internship cut short due to the coronavirus outbreak.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI started my internship on January 13 and left March 13, promptly after they started distance learning at Hunter,\u201d recalls Lent, noting, \u201cI was able to do a lot during my time there and I\u2019m so grateful for that.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She adds that while she was saddened that her experience was cut short, \u201cI understand why it was necessary for the health of everyone.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is at least one bright side to working from home, for those who are able to, according to Tabunda: loose requirements on work attire. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI enjoy having free reign on what sweats I can pair my work top with,\u201d she says with a laugh.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In an informal survey of Hunter students interning in newsrooms this semester, three of the four who replied said they were able to transition their internship to a home setting after the coronavirus outbreak.
