That\u2019s because each year a Hunter student is selected for a summer reporting fellowship from the Pulitzer Center, which then provides $3,000 to cover an under-reported global story from outside the United States.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2019, Hunter journalism student <a href=\"https:\/\/fm.hunter.cuny.edu\/journalism\/index.php\/2019\/04\/01\/pulitzer-center-picks-hunter-student-for-fellowship\/\">Audrey Henson traveled to Japan<\/a> to report on dementia treatments. The previous year, student Kadia Goba<a href=\"https:\/\/fm.hunter.cuny.edu\/journalism\/index.php\/2018\/03\/22\/student-wins-pulitzer-center-grant\/\"> won the grant<\/a> to report on environmental sustainability issues in Sierra Leone and later<a href=\"https:\/\/fm.hunter.cuny.edu\/journalism\/index.php\/2018\/10\/16\/hunters-pulitzer-fellow-publishes-story\/\"> had her work published<\/a> in Pacific Standard magazine.\u00a0<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And in 2017, journalism student Amy Russo was<a href=\"https:\/\/fm.hunter.cuny.edu\/journalism\/index.php\/2017\/03\/30\/another-news-item\/\"> awarded the fellowship<\/a> to report on the plight of children refugees arriving in Sweden. Russo\u2019s resulting report was<a href=\"https:\/\/fm.hunter.cuny.edu\/journalism\/index.php\/2017\/07\/12\/pulitzer-work-published\/\"> later published<\/a> in the prestigious journal Foreign Affairs.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Get to work on your project over the holidays, as the <strong>deadline to submit your application to Hunter Journalism judges is Feb. 28.\u00a0<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pulitzer Center, a leading journalism organization with deep experience covering global issues, offers the annual fellowship through a campus consortium that includes Hunter College.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fellowship is designed to encourage students to investigate and illuminate stories that are often overlooked, and offers students the opportunity to work with the Pulitzer Center staff on the project.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the center hosts an <a href=\"https:\/\/pulitzercenter.org\/blog\/2019-reporting-fellows-washington-weekend-highlights\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">annual fellows weekend in Washington, D.C.<\/a>, to expose students to the work of other fellows, provide an opportunity to network with professional journalists and editors, and further broaden horizons.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Learn <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/pulitzercenter.org\/grants\/reporting-fellows\" target=\"_blank\">more about the program and how to apply<\/a>, plus explore <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/pulitzercenter.org\/reporting\/reporting-fellows\" target=\"_blank\">reporting by other student fellows<\/a>.
