The episode (although regrettably not Siek\u2019s role) was later turned into a movie, \u201cThe 15:17 to Paris.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her work on social media was also instrumental in the AP\u2019s coverage of protests in Ferguson, Mo., after the death of Michael Brown. She first noticed the outrage on Black Twitter and appealed to her supervisors to send a reporter to cover the story on the ground.\u00a0<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The resulting coverage meant the AP, known as the world\u2019s largest newsgathering operation, was reporting the story before many mainstream media outlets had taken notice.\u00a0<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She noted that her personal experience helped inform her newsroom\u2019s position about what was newsworthy \u2014 and Hunter students could have the same influence if they pursue journalism careers.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Siek also reflected on shifting from a newsroom that focuses on objective journalism \u2014 including the AP, which she described as \u201caggressively neutral\u201d \u2014 to MSNBC, which trades in opinion journalism and analysis.
