Matos Rodr\u00edguez<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPuerto Rico\u2019s Centro de Periodismo Investigativo is a worthy recipient of a James Aronson Award, having obtained, exposed, and explained a trove of hurtful comments made by officials at the highest echelons of power on the island,\u201d said CUNY Chancellor F\u00e9lix V. Matos Rodr\u00edguez. \u201cThe reports sparked a widespread outcry that resonated across the globe and provoked swift change. I am pleased to acknowledge the critical contributions of the Centro de Periodismo Investigativo to my homeland at a key point in its history.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other winners are:<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/apps.publicintegrity.org\/blowout\/home\/#targetText=Blowout%3A%20Inside%20America's%20Energy%20Gamble%20is%20a%20multi%2Dpart%20collaboration,The%20Associated%20Press%20and%20Newsy.\">Blowout: Inside America\u2019s Energy Gamble<\/a>, a series on the export of fossil fuels and the implications for climate change, by reporters at the Center for Public Integrity, The Texas Tribune, the Associated Press and Newsy.&nbsp;<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/gothamist.com\/news\/prisoners-endure-a-nightmare-gulag-in-lower-manhattan-hidden-in-plain-sight\">Manhattan Gulag<\/a>, an expose of extreme conditions at Lower Manhattan\u2019s Metropolitan Correctional Center, by Aviva Stahl of Gothamist.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/publicintegrity.org\/business\/immigration\/shocked-and-humiliated-lawsuits-accuse-customs-border-officers-of-invasive-searches-of-minors-women\/\">Shocked and Humiliated<\/a>, an investigation into invasive searches by federal agents at U.S. airports, border crossings, and immigration detention centers, by Susan Ferriss or the Center for Public Integrity in collaboration with The Washington Post<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/news\/inq\/toxic-city-philadelphia-inquirer-investigation-lead-asbestos-schools-20170618.html\">Toxic City, Sick Schools<\/a>, a report on environmental problems in Philadelphia\u2019s public schools, by The Philadelphia Inquirer.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A Grambs Aronson <a href=\"https:\/\/brie.hunter.cuny.edu\/aronson\/?page_id=3331\">Cartooning with a Conscience Award<\/a> also goes to <a href=\"https:\/\/robrogers.com\/\">Rob Rogers<\/a> for the range of his work, unique artistry, and poignant social justice commentary.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, <a href=\"https:\/\/brie.hunter.cuny.edu\/aronson\/?page_id=3331\">honorable mentions will be awarded<\/a> for reports on poverty from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and on father-son cellmates by the Philadelphia Inquirer.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Get <a
