Hunter College journalism student Maria Luisa Imbachi has won the Aronson Award for Student Journalism<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Born in Colombia and raised in East-Elmhurst, Queens, Imbachi was a staff writer for The Athenian<\/a> and a reporter and anchor for the journalism program\u2019s biweekly newscast, Hunter News Now<\/a>, during her junior year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a “Dreamer” herself and recipient of the Dream.US scholarship, Imbachi chronicled some of the many issues facing undocumented students<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I learned that I could be a voice for <\/p>

students who are afraid to speak up.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI learned that I could be a voice for students who are afraid to speak up,\u201d said Imbachi, who is also passionate about the environment and reported on sustainability initiatives<\/a> to make Hunter College an eco-friendly campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Imbachi will be graduating in December and plans to continue her work on immigration and sustainability issues.
