especially when it\u2019s from a former anchor and correspondent from network and cable news. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Former NBC News and Fox News anchor Linda Vester offered her coaching services to Reporting and Writing 2 students students in Prof. Sissel McCarthy\u2019s class on March 14, as they prepare to write, report and deliver their first audio news stories. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vester shared her favorite warm-up exercises before she records a script, like breathing deeply, singing the scale, stretching her tongue, opening her jaw and practicing different consonants. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p><strong>\u2018Bring your mental Red Bull <\/strong><br><strong>into the booth.\u2019 <\/strong><br><strong>\u2014 TV anchor Linda Vester<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For the actual delivery, she emphasized resisting the temptation to just blurt words out and instead, to think about what you&#8217;re saying and say it authoritatively. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the same time, she added that you do need to boost your energy level when recording your reporter track to avoid sounding flat. \u201cBring your mental students<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>She also regaled students with her mishaps in the field, like the time she swallowed a moth on-air while reporting from Florida during Hurricane Andrew. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI just swallowed it and kept going with no mention of what happened even though everyone saw it,\u201d laughed Vester, who told students it\u2019s important to acknowledge your mistakes to your audience because it humanizes you. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another time, she caught her heel in a riser on her live audience show, \u201cDayside with Linda Vester,\u201d and fell into the laps of several sailors on leave during Fleet Week. She defused that situation by quickly joking that she hoped her husband wasn\u2019t watching.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vester graduated from Boston University with a bachelor&#8217;s degree in journalism and was a Fulbright Scholar of Middle East affairs in Egypt.
