If you\u2019re a junior or senior, why not use the before spring semester to expand your journalistic skills with a series of January Academy<\/a> enrichment workshops offered by CUNY\u2019s Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism? They\u2019re available free to select CUNY undergraduates.<\/p>\n

\"Logo<\/a>Workshops cover visual journalism topics like news photography<\/a>, smart videos with smartphones<\/a>, virtual reality<\/a>, augmented reality for journalism<\/a> and fun with animated GIFs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Broadcast-related workshops include \u201cOn Camera: Like It or Not<\/a>\u201d and writing a television script<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And there are online and data workshops like showcasing your news projects using WordPress<\/a>, as well as on data scraping<\/a> and data wrangling with R<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Some of the workshops cover fundamental journalistic skills, such as generating a constant flow of story ideas<\/a>, cultivating sources<\/a>, harnessing the power of studies<\/a>, interviewing<\/a> and copy editing your own work<\/a>.<\/p>\n

There are also a range of topical courses, including reporting on criminal justice reform<\/a>; comedy, journalism, and the role of fact in satire<\/a>; travel writing<\/a>, and turning little stories into big ones<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Economics-related courses cover power, politics and money<\/a>, \u201cTrump in the World Economy<\/a>\u201d and the economy, markets and business in the Age of Trump<\/a>.<\/p>\n
