Interns Named for Journalism Program

The Hunter College Journalism Program has selected two new interns for Fall 2019.

Media majors Rich Mendez and Kalli Siringas will report on journalism-related news and internship opportunities, and help produce the program’s web site and its weekly newsletter.

Mendez will also help manage the program’s social media presence, including its @hunterjourn Twitter account.

Mendez is a senior currently taking reporting, news literacy, and film and media production classes. After graduating, the 26-year-old Bronx native hopes to pursue his interest in political commentary and analysis, particularly focused on the state of investigative journalism.

Siringas, who plans to graduate next spring, is a journalism concentrator currently taking advanced courses in online journalism, talk radio and documentary filmmaking. The 29-year-old Detroit native is a career changer who previously worked as a musical theater actor and writer.

In her spare time, Siringas is developing a musical children’s web series that focuses on body positivity. The project, for which she is executive producer and script writer, is going into the production phase, with filming planned over the October 8-9 break.

The two new interns follow in the footsteps of the journalism program’s first intern, Madelle Tabunda, who during the course of last spring and summer helped revamp the web site’s internship listings and produced its weekly newsletter, as well as profiling journalism professors, writing closeups on journalism courses and reporting news events and awards. You can see her writing for the web site here.
