If you are an aspiring anchor, reporter or producer, seats are still available for MEDPL 388: Studio News Production, Wednesdays, 10:10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

MEDPL 388 teaches you how to anchor and produce a live newscast for the Hunter community. Students take turns reporting on Hunter College news, sports and arts for the bi-weekly, student-run show, Hunter News Now. This class is a great opportunity to practice your multimedia skills in a close-to-real-life newsroom environment. The pre-requisite MEDPL 283 News Video Reporting can be waived for students with strong shooting and editing experience who have already taken MEDPL 202. Please contact Prof. Sissel McCarthy at sissel.mccarthy@hunter.cuny.edu if you are interested.

And spots are also open in the new Hunter Athenian class (Neighborhood News, MEDPL 37700), where students produce a news site for Hunter College. If you have issues you want to expose, people you want to profile, problems you want to solve or events you want to highlight, taking this class will let you do it. Students cover five stories a semester. They pitch, report and write, shoot all the photos and contribute to the layout of the site. Students will also learn to report in a smart and thorough way, find a story’s focus, build a sound story structure, write using relevant detail, and adhere to grammar and AP Style rules. For more information or to discuss prerequisites, email Prof. Pam Frederick at pamfrederick80@gmail.com.
