Slate’s science section is seeking an intern to work three days a week out of the Brooklyn office. We are looking for someone who is organized, motivated, and an original thinker; is familiar with our science section; and has plenty of story ideas (and opinions). The ideal applicant would be a top-notch reporter with a strong nose for bullshit and a proven track record asking smart questions and finding reliable answers. The intern will help assist with reprints and light research, but the bulk of the time will be devoted to pitching, reporting, and writing. A background in science is a plus.
To apply, please send a cover letter explaining why you’re right for the job, a résumé, and either a clip that shows work that would fit in at Slate or a story idea for the science section. Please send these as one PDF to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The fall internship will run roughly from September to December and will accept applications through June 20. The spring internship will run from January to May and will accept applications through Oct. 20. Pay is $12 an hour. The weekly schedule is flexible depending on the needs of the applicant.
