The Emma Bowen Foundation is a nonprofit organization that is building a more diverse media and tech industry by recruiting promising students of color like you and placing them in multi-year paid internships at some of the nation’s leading companies. We believe that diversity is important in all areas of the media industry and offer Fellowships that prepare students for careers in the Business of Media, Content of Media, and Innovation of Media. Whether you’re interested in being a producer, a journalist, a web developer, an engineer, a business executive, a PR agent, or in any other career in the media or tech industry, the Emma Bowen Fellowship is here to help you get your start.
Fellowship Description
The Emma Bowen Fellows Program provides multi-year internships to students of color at media companies across the country. Each student works as a paid summer intern for each summer following their selection as an Emma Bowen Foundation Fellow through their college graduation, gaining significant on-the-job training in their field and making connections with colleagues and mentors that last a lifetime. Our fellows graduate with invaluable work experience and a head-start in whichever career they choose.
We work to educate and place our students in all areas of the industry, and focus on three programming tracks – the Business of Media (Sales, Public Relations, Marketing, Human Resources, etc.), Content of Media (News Production, Broadcast Journalism, and Print Journalism), and Innovation of Media (Engineering, Software Development, Digital Marketing, Coding, etc.). If selected, you will have the opportunity to develop valuable skills and network with industry professionals each summer during college. Not only will you earn a salary, but you will have the opportunity to get additional money to pay for college expenses.
Qualifications
You are welcome to apply for an Emma Bowen Fellowship if you:
Are a student of color (African-American, Asian-American, Latino, or Native American)
Are a graduating high school senior OR college student
Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0
Are interested in pursuing a career in the media industry
Plan to attend or are currently a student at a four-year accredited college or university
Are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
Speak and write English fluently

Deadline
Applications to the Emma Bowen Foundation Fellowship are accepted on a rolling basis. While we accept applications year-round, we strongly recommend that you apply by the priority deadline.
Priority Deadline – December 1: Many of our partner companies begin interviewing candidates in late 2017 and early 2018. Meeting this deadline gives you access to a wide range of fellowship placements. The majority of our placements for the summer of 2018 will apply before the priority deadline. Get your application in as soon as possible to give yourself the best opportunity to be placed in the fellowship.
