{"id":1823,"date":"2026-09-24T12:50:55","date_gmt":"2026-09-24T16:50:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fm.hunter.cuny.edu\/internship\/?p=1823"},"modified":"2026-09-24T12:50:56","modified_gmt":"2026-09-24T16:50:56","slug":"create-animation-visuals-for-a-live-theater-production-at-hunter-college","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fm.hunter.cuny.edu\/internship\/2026\/09\/24\/create-animation-visuals-for-a-live-theater-production-at-hunter-college\/","title":{"rendered":"\u00a0Create Animation &amp; Visuals for a Live Theater Production at Hunter College"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We\u2019re looking for&nbsp;<strong>3\u20135&nbsp;Film &amp; Media<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>students interested in animation, motion graphics, projection design, video art, or visual storytelling<\/strong>&nbsp;to participate in a unique&nbsp;<strong>multidisciplinary theater production<\/strong>&nbsp;happening during the Fall 2026 semester.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This collaborative production brings together students and faculty from Hunter\u2019s:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Film &amp; Media Department<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Theatre Department<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Japanese Studies Department<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The production,&nbsp;<strong>Akaoni (Red Demon)<\/strong>, is inspired by Japanese folklore and will combine&nbsp;<strong>live theater performance with original animation\/video design elements<\/strong>&nbsp;created by student collaborators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students selected will work closely&nbsp;with Prof. Poyen Wang, as well as&nbsp;faculty and students across departments to help develop the production. There is a lot of creative freedom, and the animation\/video work will evolve throughout the semester as the show develops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What You\u2019ll Gain<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Real-world collaborative production experience<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A\u00a0<strong>major creative project for your portfolio\/reel<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experience working across theater, media, and storytelling disciplines<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Opportunity to contribute original visual concepts to a live performance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Potential for a 6-credit independent study or a 3-credit independent study\u00a0(pending final approval\/process)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Important Commitment Details: &nbsp;<\/strong>This is a semester-long commitment, and students&nbsp;<strong>must be able to fully commit to the entire production schedule<\/strong>, including rehearsals and performances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Required Friday Class Meetings (Fall Semester):&nbsp;<\/strong>Fridays, 2:30 PM \u2013 5:15 PM<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Required Tech\/Dress Rehearsals:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mon, Nov. 23 \u2014 5:30 PM \u2013 9:30 PM<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tues, Nov. 24 \u2014 6:15 PM \u2013 9:30 PM<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mon, Nov. 30 \u2014 5:30 PM \u2013 9:30 PM<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tues, Dec. 1 \u2014 6:15 PM \u2013 9:30 PM<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wed, Dec. 2 \u2014 Dress Rehearsal, 5:30 PM \u2013 9:30 PM<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Required Performances:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Thurs, Dec. 3 \u2014 7 PM<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fri, Dec. 4 \u2014 Student Matinee (time TBD)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fri, Dec. 4 \u2014 7 PM<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sat, Dec. 5 \u2014 2 PM<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This opportunity is best for students who:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Enjoy collaborative creative work<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have experience or interest in animation, motion graphics, projection\/video design, editing, or digital storytelling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Want hands-on production experience outside of traditional classroom projects<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can commit responsibly to deadlines, rehearsals, and performances<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Qualifications:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students should have a&nbsp;<strong>basic knowledge of Adobe After Effects and\/or 3D animation&nbsp;<\/strong>techniques.
