2 classes: Mon, Wed. 4:00 – 5:15, 6:00 – 7:15pm<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n This course examines the relationship between the media and sports and the role of sports in society. This will involve tracing the history of spectator sports; the 19th century growth in the popularity of sports and print coverage of sports; the arrival of radio sports broadcasting in the 1920\u2019s; the dramatic growth of the television-sports-advertising complex from the 1960s to the 1990s, and the impact of the internet on the media-sports industry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The course will consider the business operations of the TV sports industry and analyze the production of a TV sports program. The above subjects will provide a foundation from which to examine various social issues about sports- sports and race in American society; women and sports; sports and male culture; and sports and national identity. Major and minor American spectator sports will be considered in addition to sports popular in other countries and the Olympic Games. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The course counts as an Analytical course in the Media Studies Major. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Larry Shore For those of you interested in sports and possibly pursuing a career in the Media Sports Industry. 2 sections next semester.
