Application Deadline: October 20, 2024
The CENTRO and HITN Media Scholarship Program aims to inspire students to create
impactful media projects highlighting the Puerto Rican experience in the United States.
PURPOSE
The Media Scholarship Program has two main objectives:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. To encourage students to use their media arts talents to tell compelling stories about the
    Puerto Rican experience in the United States.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. To provide scholarship recipients the opportunity to produce media content using the
    extensive resources and collections available at the CENTRO Library and Archives at
    Hunter College.
    ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
    Applicants must:
    \u25cf Be currently enrolled at Hunter College.
    \u25cf Have a demonstrated background in media arts, including, but not limited to,
    photography, film, video, audio, computer and digital arts, or interactive media.
    \u25cf Show a strong interest in exploring and documenting a story about the Puerto Rican
    experience in the United States.
    APPLICATION PROCESS
    Interested students must submit the following:<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Application Form: Complete an online application.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Proposal: Submit a 250 to 500-word proposal describing their idea for a media product
    that uses one or more CENTRO Library and Archives collections to tell a story from the
    Puerto Rican diasporic experience. The proposal must include ideas on how they plan to
    use CENTRO resources.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Portfolio: Provide links to samples of previous media projects.
    SELECTION PROCESS
    Applications will be reviewed by a committee of staff members from CENTRO\u2019s Emmy
    Award-winning Media Unit and representatives from the HITN Television Network. Selections
    will be based on the quality of the portfolio, the strength of the proposal, and the potential impact
    of the proposed media project.
    DEADLINE
    All application materials must be uploaded by 11:59 PM on October 20, 2024.
    SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
    Scholarship payments will be disbursed according to a set schedule throughout the Fall semester.
    Projects must be completed by the end of the Fall semester. Scholarship winners may reapply for
    a second scholarship for the Spring semester.
    SCHOLARSHIP WINNER RESPONSIBILITIES
    \u25cf Project Development: Create a media product that tells a story about the Puerto Rican
    experience in the United States, using resources from the CENTRO Library and Archives
    to enhance the project and deepen insights into the Puerto Rican experience.
    \u25cf Presentation: Present the completed media project at a special event.
    \u25cf Archival Contribution: Donate a copy of the media product to the CENTRO Library
    and Archives for educational and historical purposes.

    The Center for Puerto Rican Studies (CENTRO) at Hunter College, CUNY is a research
