Or you&#8217;re ready to <a href=\"#search\">search for that perfect internship<\/a>. You&#8217;re <a href=\"#applying\">getting ready to apply<\/a> for internships, <a href=\"#starting\">getting ready to start<\/a> one, or <a href=\"#finishing\">just wrapping up<\/a>. Learn more about all these topics and more, right on this very page.<\/p>\n<section id=\"academic\">\n<header>\n<h3>Earning Academic Credit<\/h3>\n<\/header>\n<p>You can earn one academic credit per 40 hours of work performed over the course of the semester. For example, a 120-hour internship would equal 3 units of academic credit. Internships are graded Credit\/No Credit (neither grade impacts your GPA) and count as general electives, not toward the major.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Credits are assigned as follows:<\/strong> FILM or MEDIA 498.01 (40 hours); FILM or MEDIA 498.02 (80 hours); FILM or MEDIA 498.03 (120 hours); FILM or MEDIA 498.04 (160) Hours; FILM or MEDIA 498.05 (200 hours); FILM or MEDIA 498.06 (240 hours)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuition is paid<\/strong> per academic credit for an internship just like a class. You have taken Media 180 or Film 101, <strong>plus three courses in your major<\/strong>. You are a student in good standing with a <strong>GPA of at least 3.0 within your major.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All <strong>transfer students<\/strong> must provide a copy of their transcript.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Film &amp; Media majors are\u00a0 allowed 12 internship credits total during your academic career at Hunter. These credits count as General Electives\/Liberal Arts in your 120 credit degree.\u00a0 CUNY BA students, Muse scholars, etc. with the permission of their advisor may take more credits in internships.<\/strong>\u00a0If you have an internship right before graduation, it makes it much easier for the internship host to make you a job offer after graduation.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"search\">\n<header>\n<h3>Finding an Internship<\/h3>\n<\/header>\n<p>A great place to start your search is looking through the <a href=\"https:\/\/hunter-cuny-csm.symplicity.com\/students\/\">Hunter Career &amp; Development Services (CDS) listings<\/a>. CDS examines all internship ads in order to make sure the experience is likely educational (and not just unpaid labor).<\/p>\n<p>Handshake is now available to find internships and is a great tool to add as a resource. Sign up here: <a href=\"https:\/\/fm.hunter.cuny.edu\/resources\/fm-internships\/join-handshake-internships\/\">https:\/\/fm.hunter.cuny.edu\/resources\/fm-internships\/join-handshake-internships\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We also regularly post internship ads here, under &#8220;<a title=\"Posts\" href=\"https:\/\/fm.hunter.cuny.edu\/internship\/posts\/\">Posts<\/a>,&#8221; as well as on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hunter.listserv.cuny.edu\/Scripts\/wa-hc.exe?SUBED1=FM-L&amp;A=1\">FM-L, the Film and Media Department listserv<\/a>. (We do not screen these as carefully as CDS does their postings.) You should join this listserv anyway, since you&#8217;ll also find out about upcoming events, where you can learn a lot and make some great off-campus contacts. (Another great networking resource is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cencom.org\/\">Center for Communication<\/a>, which hosts several top-rate media industry events at colleges around the city.)<\/p>\n<p>There are a wealth of additional online resources to help you find that perfect position. Congrats! Before you can register for credit, you&#8217;ll have to tell us all about your position:<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a title=\"Internship Information Form\" href=\"https:\/\/ww3.hunter.cuny.edu\/filmedia\/view.php?id=10364\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Internship Information Form<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>After you submit the form, the Internship Advisor will process your permission to register, and once your registration window opens, you&#8217;ll log on to <a title=\"Please don't break, CUNYfirst\" href=\"https:\/\/home.cunyfirst.cuny.edu\/oam\/Portal_Login1.html\">CUNYfirst<\/a> and register for your internship class just like any other class.<\/p>\n<p>The class number is Media 49801 to 49806, depending on how many credits (1 to 6) you&#8217;ll be earning. For example, if you&#8217;re registering for a 3-credit internship, you&#8217;ll sign up for Media 49803. <strong>Please note that this a course, and you will pay the same rate per credit hour as any other &#8220;regular&#8221; course.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Before you start your internship, be sure to read our guide, <a href=\"https:\/\/fm.hunter.cuny.edu\/~internweb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/10_keys_successful_internship.pdf\">10 Keys to a Successful Internship<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"finishing\">\n<header>\n<h3>Finishing Up and Getting Credit<\/h3>\n<\/header>\n<p>Once you&#8217;ve done the hours for your internship, your supervisor will need to fill out the <a title=\"Hunter FMS Internship Evaluation Form\" href=\"https:\/\/ww3.hunter.cuny.edu\/filmedia\/view.php?id=11673\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Internship Evaluation Form<\/a> (online) and <a href=\"https:\/\/fm.hunter.cuny.edu\/internship\/about-contact\/\">submit it to Internship Program Director David Pavlosky<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Once that is received, your grade of &#8220;CR&#8221; will be entered, and the credits will get you that much closer to graduating.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Internship Hosts\/Employers If you&#8217;re looking for great talent to nurture, and curious minds with whom to share your expertise, check out our information for internship hosts.
