IMA MFA Program invited to DOC NYC

IMA MFA Program was invited to participate in DOC NYC’s upcoming DOC NYC – U, a day of student screenings from top graduate programs like Columbia, NYU, and SVA.

The IMA showcase (IFC Center, Friday, November 11: 10:15 AM – 11:30 AM) includes nine short films by current students and recent alumni. IMA alumna Deirdre Fishel’s doc, CARE, will also be screening as well (Nov 13th 2:15pm).

IMA films:
I See You (18 min., Orian Barki) unpacks sexting among teenagers. Tatyana Fazlalizadeh: Art in Action (2016, 3 min., Sekiyah Dorsett) profiles the work of a social justice artist. One for the Road (2016, 11 min., Fernanda Faya)  As she moves from Brazil to NY, the filmmaker looks back at her grandma’s migration as a way to find traces of her own identity.  A turning point in a woman’s life is captured in Eva & Moe (2016, 8 min., Lizzie Warren). A New Yorker sets out to realize her dream of owning a farm in The Beekeepers’ Keeper (2016, 7 min., Megan Rossman, Samantha Farinella). Hansu Solo (2016, 8 min., Emily Collins, Kaija Siirala) offers an intimate portrait of a woman in an assisted living home. A tight-knit group of Bronx low-riders face the ghosts of their past gang life in Pelon (2016, 4 min., Lindsey Cordero, Armando Croda). Blue (2016, 5 min., Claudia Zamora) takes in the sounds, shapes and colors of Coney Island, while Against the Wind (2016, 9 min., Christopher Nostrand, Tomasz Gubernat) profiles weather-hardened ice yachters on the Hudson River.

DOC NYC (November 10 – 17, 2016) is America’s largest documentary film festival and was voted by MovieMaker magazine as one of the “top five coolest documentary film festivals in the world”.  An Academy Award qualifying festival for short films, DOC NYC is based at the West Village’s IFC Center, Chelsea’s SVA Theater, and the Bow Tie Chelsea Cinema.
