Emerging Media Lecture: Steve Maing

Film maker Steve Maing will screen his new documentary “High Tech, Low Life”, a film that will be premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival

HIGH TECH, LOW LIFE follows the journey of two of China’s first citizen reporters as they travel the country – chronicling underreported news and social issues stories. Armed with laptops, cell phones, and digital cameras they develop skills as independent one-man news stations while learning to navigate China’s evolving censorship regulations and avoiding the risk of political persecution.

Emerging Media Lecture: Nick Fox-Gieg

Bio
Nick Fox-Gieg is an animator based in Toronto. His film “The Orange” won the jury prize for Best Animated Short at SXSW 2010; his films have also screened at the Ottawa, Rotterdam, TIFF, and Zagreb film festivals, at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and on CBC TV. He’s received Bravo!FACT and Canada Council commissions, media arts grants from Toronto, Ontario, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania, and a Fulbright fellowship to the Netherlands.
Fox-Gieg holds an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts and a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University. He’s currently a Fellow at the Eyebeam Art and Technology Center in NYC.

The first IMA/MFA Thesis Work-in-Progress Workshop sponsored by the IMA Development Fund, will take place on Monday, April 30th @ 7:30PM in Hunter North 502/Screening Room. Graduate students presenting include: Ghen Zando-Dennis, Stephanie Rabins, and Sasha Wortzel. All IMA students not presenting are encouraged to attend as observers.
